MISSISSAUGA, Ont. – A replica of the legendary Avro Arrow CF-105 supersonic interceptor was unveiled this week in Malton, Mississauga, where the aircraft was designed and built almost 70 years ago.
The CF-105 was considered a major Canadian engineering achievement, but just five were built before the program was abruptly canceled in 1959. That decision remains controversial to this day.
Mississauga has since grown into a major aerospace hub, and is home to Canada’s largest airport, Toronto Pearson International. The city’s mayor said the replica is aimed at preserving an important part of its heritage.
